Item 1 Page 4 of 15 section scale is wrong. Listed as 1/2"=1'-0", should be 2"=1'-0"
Item 2
2x12 material is to be used for the blocks atop posts, bedmould is installed in place.
Item 3
When fitting a solid piece of wood between the corner caps we use solid western red cedar, 1x material with 3-5 degree of taper cut on each edge. This is so that the joint can be fitted using a hand plane to compensate for any crown in the cladding block and corners. These are milled slightly larger then adjusted during installation. It is perfectly acceptable to use waterproof plywood or marine plywood, though it is expensive.
Best to seal the cut ends... see the stain guide.
Item 4
The drainage block fills the space between the columns. Size is dependant upon the thickness of the trims surrounding and the size of the built out columns. This has to be fabricated after trim is applied and dropped in place. Use an offcut of 4x4 to make them. Due to the fact that no two posts are exactly the same size and shape...(often out of square slightly or oriented in the footings differently), the size of this part has to be measured and fitted during assembly.
Item 5
The lamination is made of solid white or red cedar typically. You can use any type of exterior grade lumber which is straight grained and knot free. Use West System epoxy for the lamination adhesive. Use the template provided to create a form (blocks fastened to plywood).
Item 6
The builders originally created a different template for the beams/rafters. Please email to receive a copy of the new rafter-beam template by pdf. It is formatted to be taped together from 2 letter size sheets.
